SDG 15 – Life on land

The Sustainable Development Goals are an international initiative aimed at eradicating poverty, protecting the environment and climate, and ensuring that everyone lives in peace and prosperity. SDG 15 focuses specifically on sustainable forest management. The SDG 15 goal is to protect, restore, and promote the sustainable use of terrestrial ecosystems, manage forests sustainably, combat desertification, reverse land degradation, and halt biodiversity loss.

Terrestrial ecosystems provide a wide range of goods, including raw materials for construction and energy, food, and a variety of ecosystem services, such as carbon capture, soil quality maintenance, biodiversity habitat provision, water quality maintenance, water flow regulation, and erosion control, all of which help to reduce the risk of natural disasters such as floods and landslides, regulate climate, and maintain agricultural productivity. The preservation of these ecosystems is critical for climate adaptation and mitigation.

An urgent call for more sustainable forest management is now necessary. Raising awareness to broaden society’s, indigenous peoples’, and local communities’ roles in environmental protection. Conserve, protect, and make a difference for the environment.
